Hardy Water-Lilies - White Varieties
Planting and Propagation
Nymphaea alba is our native white water-lily which is particu- larly useful in moving and deep water. It will grow in a depth of five or six feet.

N. 'Albatross' is probably the best for small pools. The large rather pointed petals, show up well against the golden anthers and glossy green leaves.

N. Candida has small starry flowers and is specially suitable for tubs and sinks.

N. gladstoniana is one of the very largest of white varieties. When established this plant is most impressive, its sweetly- scented flowers being up to ten inches in diameter.

N. gonnere has large double flowers. Once it is established it blooms well.

N. hermine has pretty star-shaped flowers held well above the surface of the water. The green sepals and bright green leaves add to the attractiveness of this lily.

N. marliacea albida. One of the introductions of Marliaea, the French specialist grower. The very fragrant snow-white flowers are six or seven inches in diameter. This is a reliable hardy grower, indispensable for ponds and pools of moderate size.

N. pygmaea alba. This is a perfect miniature water-lily which can be grown in tubs and sinks and even in bowls indoors. Its starry-white flowers are one and a half to two inches in diameter.
