Crimson And Red Shades
Nymphaea 'Attraction' has large flowers of rich garnet-red,
the edges of the petals being marked white.
N. 'Charles de Meurville' is a free grower which-produces
very large wine-red flowers over a long season.
N. 'Conqueror' is one of Marliaea's introductions which pro-
duces its flowers most freely. These are cup-shaped, the bril-
liant red petals being slightly flecked white.
N. ellisiana is a fine lily for a tub or small pond. The glow-
ing red flowers have orange-red stamens.
N. escarboucle has perfectly-shaped, very large rich red
flowers, the yellow anthers being stained crimson. An excel-
lent grower, this is one of the best of all water-lilies.
N. froebelii is one of the finest blood-red varieties for a small
pond.
N. gloriosa. Fine blood-red flowers. Can be grown where
there is insufficient room for the larger varieties.
N. 'James Brydon'. This is most lovely and graceful, being
adaptable to varying conditions including partial shade. The
cup-shaped flowers are carmine-red or rose-crimson with pro-
minent yellow stamens.
N. laydekeri fulgens, rich crimson-red with orange-red
stamens.
N. layde\eri purpurea, wine-red, outer petals deep pink.
N. 'Maurice Laydekeri', small growing with rich rose-red
flowers.
N. pygmaea rubra. An unusual dwarf sort with rosy-red
flowers changing to garnet-red.
N. 'Sultan'. Large red flowers streaked white; unusual and
arresting.
N. 'William Falconer', a really lovely variety of the deepest
blood-red. Said to be the deepest coloured lily in cultivation.
The attractive foliage turns dark green with showy red
veins.
Yellow Shades
Nymphaea 'Colonel Welch' is a large narrow-petalled
variety with canary-yellow flowers. The lightly marbled
foliage is produced in profusion.
N. marliacea chromatella is a beautiful primrose colour, the
olive-green foliage being well marked with bronze.
N. moorei is pale canary-yellow, the green leaves being
spotted with brown which sets off the flowers well.
N. odorata sulphurea, is a lovely sulphur-yellow, the flowers
standing out of the water. The foliage is attractively mottled
reddish-brown.
N. pygmaea helvola is a really small-growing water-lily, the
tiny star-shaped flowers being a sulphur-yellow and the foliage
maroon shaded brownish-maroon.
N. 'Sunrise' is an exceptionally fine variety, the large scented
flowers being rich yellow, the leaves having a red under-
surface.
Variable Shades
N. aurora is unusual because of its changes of colour. The
flowers open yellow and change to orange before turning red.
N. graziella has orange-yellow flowers flushed coppery-pink.
N. indiana opens orange-yellow and passes first to red-bronze
and finally to coppery-red.
N. 'Paul Hariot' is a mixture of yellow, copper and rose. It
is excellent for tubs and small pools.
